Other Passages Sessions Could Have Used to Support Ripping a Refugee’s Child Away From Its Mother

Here are just a few:

  1. Genesis 16
So this woman Hagar, she’s all upset that she got kicked out of the home of Isaac, for whom she’d been a handmaid. And so then God takes the baby away from h—
Wait, what? He doesn’t. Oh. Well, what does he do?
He provides for her and the boy? Oh. Well. That’s cool. Ok never mind.
  2. Matthew 2:16
Yeah in this passage King Herod just straight up kills countless male babies in order to…you know…protect the interest of his nation. So I guess Sessions should use that passage, because it’s in the Bible.
  3. Exodus 1:15
Oh yeah, before Herod Pharaoh did something like that. So yeah. It’s in the Bible twice if you count just killing the children.
  4. Exodus 22:22-24
“You shall not mistreat any widow or fatherless child. If you do mistreat them, and they cry out to me, I will surely hear their cry, and my wrath will burn, and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives shall become widows and your children fatherless.”
Well, ok, so um…it looks like actually if you mistreat a child who doesn’t have their parent to take care of them, God is actually motivated to kill you and remove you from your children. So, maybe, if anything, the American govt. better brace itself. Yikes.

But he would not be able to use these passages:

  • Genesis 23:4
  • Exodus 2:22
  • Ruth 1:1
  • Deuteronomy 23:16
They can stay with you: in your own community or in any place they select from one of your cities, whatever seems good to them. Don’t oppress them.”
  • Deuteronomy 24:17
  • Jeremiah 7:6
  • Malachi 3:5
  • Leviticus 19:10
  • Leviticus 23:22
  • Leviticus 25:35
4556659182_c66704856f_b“If one of your fellow Israelites faces financial difficulty and is in a shaky situation with you, you must assist them as you would an immigrant or foreign guest so that they can survive among you.”
