Hanna has it right. If salvation/damnation has nothing to do with human sin and responsiveness, it really is God selecting a group of “cool kids” just because he can. That’s why Reformed theodicy gets interesting. Their presuppositions allow them to revert to, “Well, ultimately, God is inscrutable.” I suspect what’s really going on back of it all is that trying to supply a systematic account of God’s justice on the terms their system dictates sounds an awful lot like an apologia for the irrational antics of an alcoholic parent.
