They always tell me, “do your own research.”
Actually, it’s usually, without punctuation, “its lies wake up America dont listen to the experts do your own research.” Or something like that.
So I did. I did my own research. It turns out that if you want the economy to get better, you can’t just start drilling for more oil and assume the price of everything will go way down.
You might say, “well of course it will. It’s basic supply and demand, dummy.”

On the surface, and to a dummy, it would be that simple, wouldn’t it? There’s only 10 barrels of resource. We need 100. Let people collect those 100 barrels and sell them and the resource will be cheaper. Hooray.
It’s one of the basics of economics, but it’s also only one of the basics of economics. There are others. And there are also complications. It’s why we have economists. And they get paid a lot. For you see, a decent economist is hard to come by, because their job is hard, so they get paid quite a bit. Supply and demand, right? But if the supply is low, it’s because learning all this economics stuff at an expert level requires a lot of education and skill, proving that economics isn’t that simple.
Hence, why you do need to do your own research, not just your own reasoning. If “drill baby drill” solved all our problems, we wouldn’t need economists to tell us how we can heal an economy.
First of all, the “drill baby drill” philosophy can lead to future oil shocks, not prevent or stop them. Even as America’s oil output is at an all-time high, oil is a global commodity and international events and organizations are influencing the prices more than U.S. companies and government alone.
I found it here, but do your own research.
I found it here and here, but do your own research.
I found it here, but do your own research.
1) Ban companies from auctioning off your gasoline to the highest overseas bidder. Tell your politicians to do this, vote for those who said they will do this, and/or threaten to impeach those who do not do this. Ok, impeach is harsh. Threaten to not vote for them again.
We’ve tried increasing the supply of oil. It didn’t work, and the supply won’t last forever, anyway. And tapping and transporting and using that supply takes a toll on public health, agricultural health, and affordable housing.
So let’s change the demand. Use other kinds of energy. Invest in them. Vote for them. Believe in them. What’s Putin gonna do? Block out the sun?
